James Hamlett, Kingsport

KINGSPORT — James C. Hamlett, 74, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011, at his residence.
A life long resident of Kingsport, he was the son of the late James Clifton and Ida Jones Hamlett.
James graduated from ETSU with a Master’s degree. James was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Gamma Theta Epsilon Fraternities. He taught Geography at ETSU and then later retired from Frontier Health with more than 15 years of service as an Alcohol and Drug Therapist.
He was a certified member of Naadac and Laadac; and he was also certified as a National Masters Addiction Counselor. He was a member of the Association of American Geographers and the National Wildlife Federation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Birgitta Elisabeth Mebius Hamlett.
Survivors include his two step-sons, Kareem Souka and Omar Souka; grandchildren, Matthew Souka and Ryan Souka; and very special friends, Fryde and Linda Huneycutt and Ron Ison Jr.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. James C. Hamlett will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Monday, July 11, 2011, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Rev. Samuel Gerace officiating.
A gathering of friends will be held Monday from 6:00 PM until the service hour in the funeral home chapel.
The family and friends would like to send special thanks to his caregivers Tracy, Wes, Charity, Rhonda, Freda, Chris and the staff of CARIS for the care and concern shown to Mr. Hamlett.
