Helen Starnes, Johnson City

Mrs. Helen “Boots” Louise Hicks Starnes, age 82, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
Mrs. Starnes was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late John & Edith Leach Hicks. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Starnes was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Starnes.
She was a member of Harvest Time Christian Church.
Mrs. Starnes was a Homemaker and a former member of Lamar Ruritan.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Rita & Joe Garst, Johnson City; one sister, Gladys “Toots” Hicks, Johnson City; one grandson, Johnathan Garst and wife, Michele, Johnson City; one great-grandson, Matthew Christopher Garst; sister-in-law, Judy Starnes, Jonesborough; several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister Tad Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, July 11, 2011, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Frank “Humpy” Harold, Gary Cash, Bruce Cocke, Ben Painter, Wayne Scott, Everett Scott, Scott Starnes and Bill Banner. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hoss, Jeremiah Painter, Mitchell Bearfield, Eddie Harold, Ray Ford, Dave Jones, Norman “Doc” White, Lloyd Webb and “Dub” Masters.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the ER and Intensive Care staff of Franklin Woods Hospital for the love, care and concern for their family.
