Edith ‘Becky’ Samples, Johnson City

Edith Rebecca (Becky) Samples, 85, formerly of 512 Magnolia Avenue, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, in the NHC Healthcare.
She was a native of Hartford, Tennessee, but had lived in Johnson City since 1946. Mrs. Samples was a daughter of the late Reuben and Ethel McGaha Black. She was a 50 year member of the Beech Cliff Church, where she had served as Trustee.
Mrs. Samples was a loving mother, grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollie Samples, in 1999; two sons, Charles W. Samples and Hollie Creed Samples; a brother, William Black; a grandson, Leonard Head; and a great-grandson, Travis Campbell.
Survivors include a son, John R. Samples and his wife, Patti, of Snellville, GA; three daughters, Shelby Head, of Jonesborough, Betty Whittemore and her husband, Thomas, Johnson City, and Sarah Zimmern and her husband, Wayne Gentry, Johnson City; a sister, Pauline Linville and her husband, James, of Unicoi; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Samples; a sister-in-law, Betty Black, Erwin; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; a special friend and former son-in-law, Ron Zimmern; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Samples will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 7, 2011, in the Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold McNabb officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time.
Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Greg and Anthony Head, Tom and Eric Whittemore, Ronnie and Ron Zimmern, Dustin Riffle and Justin Whittemore.
The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of NHC Healthcare and Chaplain Harold McNabb, also to the staff of Caris Hospice Group for the wonderful love and care they provided.
