Peter Mainzer, Powell, Ohio

Peter J. Mainzer, age 72, of Powell, Ohio passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Kobacker House, Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his family.
Pete was born February 22, 1939 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Francis and Dorothy Mainzer; his first wife, Brigitte; his sister, Cynthia, and sister-in-law, Barbara Mainzer.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Doak Mainzer; sons, Peter J. Mainzer, Jr., and his wife, Patty of Charlottesville, Virginia, Michael G. Mainzer, and his wife, Kristie of Glen Allen, Virginia and their children, Kayla R. and Brigitte A. Mainzer; stepchildren, Mary Myers Carey, and her husband, William of Powell, Ohio, and Wes Myers of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. Frank Mainzer, and his wife, Joan of Erie, Pennsylvania, Dr. Thomas Mainzer of Jay, New York, John Mainzer, and his wife, Ellen of Dallas, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pete attended Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania. Pete spent his career in banking, most recently retiring from Huntington Bank. He was a six-year veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, having served in Germany. Pete enjoyed traveling, cooking and spending time with all his family. He was devoted to his Labrador retrievers, Gracie and Maddie. Pete was a loving husband, a great father and wonderful grandfather.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, (Powell Rd, St. Rte. 750, ¼ mile East of Sawmill Parkway), Powell, Ohio 43065 with Pastor Larry Brown, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
