ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County Jail inmate who was reportedly beaten by two fellow inmates shortly after being placed in his cell, underwent surgery last week for a severed spine.

Scott Mitchell Stanley, 45, 280 Campbell Drive, Rogersville, was charged with felony marijuana possession on June 1.

According to HCSO Deputy Cory Young, who investigates crimes that occur inside the jail, Stanley was placed in a cell with two other inmates shortly after he was booked into jail.

It is alleged that as soon as he was left alone with his two cellmates he was attacked, but it's not known exactly how he suffered the spinal injury.

More about the jail attack from the Kingsport Times News.
