Police ID man killed by train in downtown Johnson City

Police on Wednesday identified the pedestrian killed by a train Tuesday night in downtown Johnson City.

George E. Pealer, 50, was pronounced dead at scene after being struck with by Norfolk Southern Railway locomotive at the tracks adjacent to Buffalo Street between Roan and Market streets. Police responded about 9:20 p.m.

Three engines pulling the train came to a stop about three blocks south of the intersection where the impact is believed to have occurred.

Police said in a news release that Norfolk Southern employees and witnesses gave statements about the incident. The train also was equipped with video surveillance equipment. Investigators will review the recordings once available.

The investigation was ongoing.
