UPDATE: Man, woman in 60s found dead from gunshot wounds in Tree Streets

Johnson City police investigators said they were not looking for a shooting suspect, and the public is not in danger after a man and woman were found dead in a home on West Poplar Street Tuesday morning.

JCPD Sgt. Mike Adams said a weapon was found near the bodies of a 64-year-old man and 60-year-old woman. The married couple had lived at the house at 114 W. Poplar Street for several years, Adams said. The man and woman’s names had not been released late Tuesday.

Police were called to the residence just after 8 a.m. after a neighbor had heard a disturbance coming from the residence followed by gunshots, according to Capt. Matt Howell.

The neighbor called a relative of the residents, and the relative discovered the two bodies in a bedroom. Howell said the victims were a 64-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman.

No one else was in the residence when the bodies were found, he said. Children’s toys could be seen outside the home. The residents apparently babysat for relatives on occasion.

Relatives and neighbors were gathered near the residence as investigators gathered evidence and medical personnel moved the bodies to ambulances for transport to the William Jenkins Forensic Center.

Officers were on scene until around 3:30 p.m., then the residence was turned back over to the family.
