Police heard gunshots in east Johnson City early Monday morning, spotted a fleeing vehicle and chased down three people, one of whom admitted to firing shots, police said in a news release.

About 12:40 a.m., police were near East Watauga Avenue and North Broadway Street when they heard four to five gunshots and immediately saw a black Pontiac speeding away from Crown Street.

Police followed the Pontiac and tried to stop it at East Myrtle Avenue and Steel Street, but the driver sped up. After a brief chase, the driver stopped, and two passengers — a man and a boy — jumped out and ran.

Both Antonio Jackson, 24, 2008 Mallard Cove, Butler, and the boy were taken into custody after a foot chase. The driver, Brandy Fields, 22, 1907 E. Myrtle Ave., also was arrested.

Police questioned Jackson and Fields, and both told police Jackson had fired two shots in the air on Crown. Police said they found four shell casings, however, on Crown.

Jackson and Fields were jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond each awaiting Sessions Court hearings set for Tuesday. Fields was charged with felony evading arrest, felony reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked license. Jackson was charged with felony reckless endangerment and misdemeanor evading arrest.

Police did not say in the news release whether the boy faced charges. Juvenile records are sealed in Tennessee, and arresting officers could not be reached for comment.
