Johnson City police arrest fugitive on Maple Street

Johnson City police said they arrested a fugitive from Georgia on Friday morning.

In a news release, officers said they noticed Walter Clarence Church, 60, 111 E. Maple St., standing in front of his house as they were on patrol. Police already knew he had a warrant out for his arrest from Whitefield County, Ga. Church was taken into custody without incident and charged with being a fugitive from justice.

He has since been transferred to the Washington County Detention Center with a pending bond and is set to appear in Sessions Court for arraignment.
