Gray man charged with aggravated domestic assault after Johnson City parking lot incident

Johnson City police arrested a Gray man on Sunday after several witnesses said he tried to run over his girlfriend in a business’ parking lot.

Jeffery Mercer, 40, 1825 Carroll Creek Road, was later arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic assault.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at Cantech Industries Inc., 2222 Eddie Williams Road, police said. When police responded to a call about a man driving recklessly through the parking lot, they said he had already left the scene. Police said several employees at the business were outside and saw Mercer driving a blue 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The witnesses told police Mercer tried to run over his girlfriend.

He was located around 8:35 a.m. at the Johnson Inn. He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and held on $30,000 bond. He was scheduled for arraignment today in Sessions Court.
