Johnson City police chase ends in felony arrest

A Jonesborough man was arrested on multiple charges early Friday morning after a he fled a traffic stop that prompted a chase involving three law enforcement agencies.

About 3:30 a.m. Friday, police tried stopping Franco Becerra, 26, 711 Old State Route 34, Jonesborough, near the intersection of West State of Franklin Road and West Watauga Avenue.

Johnson City police said Becerra did not stop and continued to travel west on State of Franklin. With the assistance of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and ETSU Public Safety, officers were able to get the vehicle to stop, allowing police to take the driver into custody. Police saw a six-pack of opened Corona bottles in the vehicle.

Records indicated that Becerra a suspended license with two previous convictions of driving with a suspended license. Police said he also was not wearing a seat belt and had no proof of insurance.

He was charged with felony evading arrest, driving while suspended third offense and violations of the open container, seat belt and financial responsibility laws. He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $11,500 bond and arraigned later Friday in Sessions Court.
