City pair arrested in domestic disturbance

Police say a pair from Johnson City were arrested Wednesday following a domestic disturbance.

According to a news release from the Johnson City Police Department, officers responded to 2409 Park Ave. at 12:20 p.m. where they conducted an investigation in which they determined both Suzanne Szumny, 34, and Keith Fitzgerald, 45, both residents at the address, were involved in the physical altercation. Following an argument, the pair got into a fight in which Szumny had thrown something at Fitzgerald, injuring his shoulder.

Szumny told police Fitzgerald put his hands around her neck to strangle her until she passed out. One of the witnesses who tried to break up the fight was also shoved to the ground.

Fitzgerald was arrested, charged with domestic aggravated and simple assault and brought to the Johnson City Medical Center for his injuries then to the Washington County Detention Center

Szumny was charged with aggravated domestic assault and brought to the WCDC, where she was being held on $50,000 bond. Both are scheduled for arraignment in Sessions Court today at 1:30 p.m.
