Man charged with attempted murder in Blountville shooting

BLOUNTVILLE — Deputies have made an arrest in a Tuesday night fight at a Blountville residence, where a gun was allegedly pulled, a man was pistol whipped and at least three shots fired.
According to Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart, Edward Mabe, 49, of 280 George Carr Road, was apprehended during a traffic stop shortly after the incident. He's charged with attempted-second degree murder and aggravated assault.
The victim in the altercation, Jesse Smith, 29, was reportedly grazed in the head by a bullet and beaten, then transported to the hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly after 8 p.m. police were called to 286 George Carr Road. According to statements from numerous witnesses, Smith was visiting at the home when Mabe arrived and ignited a verbal altercation with another individual.
