Staff Reports • May 21, 2014 at 8:25 PM

Police in the Johnson City area said they will increase the amount of officers on the roads for Memorial Day weekend.

According to a news release from the Johnson City Police Department, through grant overtime funding provided by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, the JCPD will have officers in greater numbers on the lookout for impaired drivers. The program is working with the state’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

It will take place Friday through Monday and aims to cut down the cases of buzzed and impaired driving. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, 10 motorists killed in traffic crashes on state roads during the 2013 holiday weekend, down from 14 in 2012.
