According to police, George T. Thompson, 37, 172 Madison St., Erwin, was first spotted inside a home on West Englewood Drive. The homeowner had returned to the house around 2 p.m. Wednesday to find a man, later identified as Thompson, in the residence.
The homeowner told police the burglar fled the scene riding a blue Suzuki sports bike and wearing a black-and-white helmet.
A short time later, officers were called to another residential burglary, this one on Linkwood Drive, where the victim gave the same description of a burglar riding a blue motorcycle.
Officers spotted the motorcycle traveling on Sundale Drive and attempted to stop Thompson, who instead pulled into a driveway, got off his bike and attempted to run from the scene, according to reports. After a short foot pursuit, Thompson was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, theft of property over $500, evading arrest, simple possession and his ninth offense of driving on a suspended license.
He was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $48,000 bond pending an arraignment in Sessions Court.
