Police: Handgun found after crash near ETSU, felon arrested

A crash on State of Franklin Road near East Tennessee State University led Johnson City police to arrest a convicted felon early Thursday morning after marijuana and a handgun were discovered in his vehicle, police said in a news release.
James M. Perkinson, 25, 184 Claude Simmons Road, was treated at Johnson City Medical Center after the crash at State of Franklin at Jack Vest Drive. He was arrested after his release.
Police found a glass pipe, marijuana and a handgun belonging to Perkinson, police said.
Perkinson was charged with driving under the influence, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $8,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance later Thursday.
