Photographer reports $6,000 worth of equipment stolen during Roan Mountain hike

ROAN MOUNTAIN — A photographer reported to the Carter County Sheriff's Department that a thief had stolen over $6,000 worth of camera equipment from his vehicle while it was parked at Carver's Gap on Roan Mountain last week.

Ben Avivi, Asheville, N.C. told Deputy Isaac Rhea that he had completed a hike on the mountain and had put his pack inside his vehicle while he went to the restroom. When he returned from the restroom, he found he had forgotten to lock his car. He found the pack with all his camera gear was gone.

The stolen items included a Canon 5D camera, valued at $2,700; a Canon 70mm-300 mm lens, valued at $2,000; a Canon 50 mm 1.2 lens, valued at $1,400; a $300 tripod; and a Lowepro pack, valued at $200.
