Carter Co. deputies seize $2,100 in cash, marijuana in DUI traffic stop; three charged

ELIZABETHTON — More than $2,000 in cash and an ounce of marijuana were seized and three men were arrested Saturday night after Carter County deputies stopped a pickup truck's driver for speeding on the Stoney Creek Highway.

Sgt. Shane Watson and Deputy Scott Whitmire said they noticed a Dodge pickup truck in front of them begin to speed up. Watson followed the truck and turned on his emergency lights. The truck pulled over in the 2600 Block of the Stoney Creek Highway.

There were three men in the car, and deputies said they noticed numerous open cans of beer inside the vehicle. The driver was identified as Jeffery W. Horton, 29, Kingsport. Whitmire said Horton was given several field sobriety checks and was charged with driving under the influence and implied consent violation.

The front seat passenger, Jeffrey Coleman, 45, 2884 Highway 91, was identified as the owner of the truck. During a search of the vehicle, Whitmire said, plastic bag containing approximately an ounce of marijuana was found in the glove box. Coleman was charged with possession of schedule VI drug for resale.

The second passenger was identified as Dillon M. Tummire, 21, Kingsport. Whitmire said he was found to be in possession of $2,161 in cash, a set of scales, a pipe and a container he said held medicine he uses. Tummire was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

All three men are scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on April 7.
