KPD: Drunken driver tries to ditch baby after crash

A Saturday crash in Kingsport has triggered multiple charges against an allegedly drunken driver, whose passenger during the wreck was reportedly a young child with no child seat.

The suspect was located at a nearby residence "covered in blood," according to a Kingsport Police Department report, and "trying to give a baby away." Both he and the child were transported to the hospital for treatment.Ryan M. Stroop, 26, of 104 Wood Lane, Surgoinsville, faces charges of felony reckless endangerment, child neglect, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, violation of registration, violation of child restraint laws, failure to maintain control, failure to use a seatbelt and no insurance.Shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to a crash on Orebank Road near John B. Dennis Highway. A 1997 Mercury Cougar was reportedly found beneath a downed utility police, but no one could be located within or around the vehicle.
