Community complaints lead to marijuana-related arrest in Unicoi County

ERWIN — Following several complaints of suspicious activity, a Unicoi County man was arrested Tuesday on multiple marijuana-related charges, authorities said.
According to a press release from the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Mike Hensley said 32-year-old Isaac Mendoza, Apt. 25, Whispering Meadows Apartments, 1821 Zane Whitson Drive, was arrested after an investigation into the sale of illegal drugs. Hensley said the investigation was the result of complaints from community members who alleged Mendoza had been engaging in suspicious activity at the residence.
Hensley said investigators conducted several undercover buys from Mendoza, with evidence showing pounds of marijuana had been sold by Mendoza, and the apartment was used in distribution of the controlled substance. The Sheriff’s Department collect several ounces of marijuana through undercover operations, and seized $817 during the search. Authorities also seized Mendoza’s vehicle, which the release said had been used to deliver drugs.
Mendoza is charged with possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $40,000 corporate bond following his arraignment in Sessions Court on Wednesday.
