Police: Man assaulted officers during Bristol, Va., meth lab raid

BRISTOL, Va. — Authorities raided a Rhode Island Avenue residence late Wednesday night, arresting a man after finding an active meth cooking operation and loaded guns.
Larry A. Begley, 39, assaulted two law enforcement officers during the raid at his residence at 1122 Rhode Island Ave., Bristol police said in a news release.
Just before midnight, a regional meth lab team from area law enforcement agencies presented a search warrant at the residence and found items used to manufacture methamphetamine, three one-pot/shake-and-bake reaction vessels, one of which was an active meth cook, and two loaded firearms.
Begley was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of two or more precursors to meth, two counts of possessing a firearm along with a schedule II controlled substance, two counts of assault on law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.
He was held without bond in the Bristol jail pending a court appearance Jan. 23.
