UNICOI - Unicoi County authorities are continuing the search for two men they say forced their way into a Unicoi resident's home and attempted to rob a woman.

Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said the attempted home invasion robbery was reported at around 9:30 p.m. Monday. He said a woman had returned to her home on Pleasant Hill Drive, located off Marbleton Road. Hensley said the woman was approached by two men wearing ski masks.

Hensley said the men forced the woman into her home, where they taped her to a chair and demanded the combination to a safe in the home. She reported that the men threatened to kill her husband upon his return to the residence if she did not provide the combination, Hensley said.

The woman advised the men that she did not have the combination and was unable to open the safe. Hensley said the two men searched the home for money, but nothing was taken. The sheriff said the woman was able to free herself after the robbers left her home, and she contacted 911. Emergency Medical Services personnel were dispatched to the scene, but Hensley said the woman was not harmed in the incident.

Hensley said police dogs were able to track the men from the home to Marbleton Road, where the track was lost. On Monday evening, the area was sealed off and several deputies were stationed in the area.

The sheriff said the attempted home invasion does not appear to be a random act, as the attempted home invasion was planned and the two men were waiting on someone to arrive at the Pleasant Hill Drive residence.

"There's no question in my mind they know them," Hensley said.

Still, Hensley said he is asking resident in the area to take caution. This includes leaving a light on when they leave and parking in well-lit areas at their homes. He said those with any information or who see suspicious activity should contact 911 or the sheriff's department at 743-1850.

Hensley said a reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved in the attempted home invasion robbery.
