Inmate picks up ID theft charge from Johnson City traffic stop

Staff Report • Nov 12, 2013 at 4:45 PM

A Johnson City man already jailed received additional charges Monday resulting from an October traffic stop.

Police charged Benjamin J. Riddle, 25, 1212 E. Lakeview Drive, with identity theft.

During the Oct. 23 traffic stop on East Fairview Ave., Riddle had given officers a name, social security number and date of birth that was not his own, police said. He has no other identification available, and police issued him traffic citations under that other man's name and personal information. Police later learned that had used information belonging to someone he knew.

A warrant for Riddle's arrest was served Monday in the Washington County Detention Center, where he was already held on unrelated charges. He was charged with identity theft, driving on suspended and other traffic offenses. He was held on $11,000 bond and arraigned Tuesday in Sessions Court.
