Johnson City police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon who led them in a high-speed pursuit through the Tree Streets area, police said.

A police news release said Robert H. Rose, 41, 1301 E. 8th Ave., was arrested after police tried to stop his vehicle for a tag violation about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Roan and West Pine streets.

Police said Rose did not comply with the request to stop and proceeded through the Tree Streets at high speed. Officers said they abandoned their attempts to stop him due to safety concerns.

A short time later, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of Rose’s vehicle and again it attempted to flee. However, the vehicle ran out of gas and Rose got out and started to run from the scene. He was apprehended after a short pursuit.

Rose was charged with felony evading arrest, driving while a habitual motor offender, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and violation of the implied consent law.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $76,000 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Sessions Court on Thursday afternoon.
