A Johnson City woman cut someone in a fight and stabbed herself in the process early this morning, Johnson City police said.
Kimberly L. Maupin, 19, 2 Mel Circle, No. 2, was arrested after her release from Johnson City Medical Center and charged with aggravated assault.
Police arrived at 900 E. Lakeview Ave. just after midnight to find Maupin and others fighting in the yard and surrounded by several other people.
In a court record, Patrolman Alex Garrison reported that he found Maupin fighting with Sharon Veatch on the ground, while Terry Veatch, Matthew Veach and Dakota Davis were trying to pull the women apart. Garrison separated the women and spoke with Sharon Veach, who claimed that Maupin had assaulted her daughter, Ashley, and she was trying to keep Maupin away from the daughter, who had suffered minor cuts on her left hand from a knife.
Garrison said he learned that Maupin and others had gone to the East Lakeview address and started a fight in retaliation for an earlier incident that also involved police. As many as seven other people armed with pepper spray and blunt objects had fled before Garrison got there.
Witnesses told Garrison that Maupin swung a knife at Sharon Veatch but missed and stabbed her own left leg. An unidentified person in the fight sprayed Sharon Veatch's face with pepper spay and sprayed Matthew Veatch's arms.
Emergency Medical Services personnel checked Sharon and Ashely Veatch at the scene, but neither needed medical treatment, Garrison said. Maupin was treated at JCMC for a non-life-threatening stab wound in her leg.
Maupin was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center and arraigned today in Sessions Court, where she was ordered to have no contact with the victims. She remained held on $10,000 bond, and a hearing was set for Oct. 17.
