ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton Police Department has made an arrest in last week's fatal hit-and-run accident.
Chyanne Elizabeth Gobble, 20, 612 Maple St., was arrested Monday on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.
The accident happened at 9:53 p.m. on Thursday on the Elizabethton Highway at Rio Vista Hill near the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Christopher Dale Hughes was identified as the pedestrian. He was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 a.m. Friday.
The Elizabethton Police Department and the Elizabethton Fire Department responded to the accident. Witnesses told investigators that the pedestrian had been struck in the road by a dark-colored sports utility vehicle.
Officer Trevor Salyer said approximately two hours after the accident, a man called 911 and reported that his granddaughter had struck something in the road on the Elizabethton Highway.
Chief Greg Workman and Investigator and Investigator Joe Harrah of the Elizabethton Police Department made contact with Gobble, who was the granddaughter.
Salyer reported that Gobble admitted to hitting something in the road and after hitting the object she did not stop. She said she went to her grandfather's residence.
Harrah also took photographs of Gobble's black Kia Soul to document damage to the vehicle.
Salyer consulted with the district attorney's office about the incident and then took out the arrest warrant on Gobble.
