Johnson City man arrested for possession of crack cocaine, MDMA and firearm during traffic stop

A Johnson City man was arrested Tuesday after police reportedly located crack cocaine in his possession during a traffic stop, a Johnson City police news release said.

According to the release, officers allegedly seized 17 grams of crack cocaine from Montavius Gholston, 1210 Glynridge Ave., during a traffic stop and an additional 98 grams of crack cocaine, six grams of MDMA, commonly known as ecstacy, a firearm and $3,322 in cash were also found during the investigation.

Gholston was charged with possession of a schedule I drugs for resale, possession of a schedule II drug for resale, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance and possessing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony.

He was taken to Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $41,000 bond, pending a court appearance in Sessions Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

According to the release, a federal detainer was also placed against Gholston at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s office.
