ROAN MOUNTAIN — A man reported a pistol and a briefcase containing $2,500 in cash was stolen from his vehicle while he was visiting a friend on Roan Street over the weekend.

Franklin Delano told Deputy Brady Higgins that he had not intended to spend the night at the friend's house, so he had left his vehicle unlocked and the keys in the vehicle.

When Delano returned to his car the next day, he said he first noticed his global positioning system was missing. He looked inside his glove compartment and found a flashlight missing and his papers had been searched.

Delano checked the trunk and found his briefcase, containing personal papers, a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol, a check book and an envelope containing $2,500 was missing.
