KINGSPORT — Tennessee Bureau of Investigations sent out a press release today correcting a previous release about a man shot by Kingsport Police Department officers in June.

Previously, TBI officals stated Jeffrey Caldwell, 25, was brandishing a knife and a handgun, they said Thursday. The correction released today said he was brandishing a knife and what appeared to be a handgun but later turned out to be a roof shingle.

Caldwell’s bond for the assault charge has been set at $750, a TBI spokesperson said.
