Man charged with criminal impersonation

A Johnson City man was charged Wednesday following a report of identity theft at Fairview and Watauga avenues, a police report said.

Police said Douglas Gene Whitt Jr., 26, 2109 Miller Lane, was arrested after he told police he did not have identification, but claimed to be Gregory Paul Stines.

Police were able to identify Whitt after a search revealed his wallet with identification inside.

According to the report, Whitt was also in violation of probation out of Washington County.

He was charged with both criminal impersonation and violation of probation and was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held on $6,000 bond.

Whitt is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
