ELIZABETHTON — Carter County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 21-year-old man on Wednesday on an allegation he tried to run over his brother with his vehicle outside a Hampton bait shop.

Tyler Nathaniel Edwards, 21, Apt. D-6, 1253 Bluefield Ave., charged with aggravated assault under the Domestic Violence Law. Following a search after his arrest, he was also charged with possession of schedule III, IV, and VI drugs.

Deputy Brian Smithpeters said there was a disturbance outside the Hampton Bait Shop on Wednesday night. Constables Tim Lyons and John Henson were the first officers on the scene. When Smithpeters arrived, Edwards was being detained in Lyons' patrol car. Edwards appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant.

Smithpeters talked with Edwards' brother, Cody, who said Tyler tried to run over him several times with his vehicle in the parking lot. He said Tyler then got out of his vehicle and started to fight with him.

Smithpeters said he found a pill fob in Tyler's possession that carried pills identified as Klonopin, Xanax and suboxone. Searching his wallet, deputies found a clear bag containing marijuana.

Edwards is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Sept. 30.
