Woman, juvenile charged with stealing from Johnson City mall store

An 18-year-old Erwin woman was arrested Wednesday on charges that she went on a shoplifting spree in a Johnson City mall store with a juvenile.

Kendra Hope Edwards, 768 Old Highway Road, Erwin, was arrested after police investigated a complaint about two shoplifters at JC Penney in the Mall at Johnson City.

Police said Edwards and the girl were found with merchandise totaling $610. The two had concealed several articles of clothing and several pieces of costume jewelry and exited the store without paying. JC Penny employees confronted and detained Edwards and the girl as they left the store.

Both Edwards and the girl were charged with shoplifting/theft of property over $500. The girl was released to the custody of her mother on a citation pending an appearance in Juvenile Court.

Edwards also was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond pending a Sessions Court hearing today.
