Reporter charged with falsifying tag

Staff Report • Aug 7, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Johnson City police arrested an Elizabethton man Wednesday on a charge that he altered his vehicle’s license plate, which had been expired nearly a year.

Police pulled over Nathan E. Baker, 28, 1689 Bristol Hwy., Elizabethton, around 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of West Main Street and Boone Street, according to a news release.

After checking Baker’s registration, police learned it has been expired for nearly one year, although the tag had an August 2013 sticker on it. Police determined that a fake decal had been put on the tag.

Baker was held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond. Arraignment was set for Thursday in Sessions Court.

Baker is a reporter at the Johnson City Press.
