A Johnson City man was charged with auto theft Friday after a member of the victim’s family saw him driving the stolen vehicle, police said.

According to a Johnson City Police Department news release, Robert Rose, 25, 508 Hart Ave., was charged with theft over $10,000 in theft of a 2004 Subaru from a downtown parking lot July 13. Police said there were no witnesses to the theft.

On Friday, police said the family member saw Rose driving the vehicle in the Boones Creek area. Officers located Rose after he abandoned the Subaru on Interstate 26 and flagged down another vehicle for a ride.

The release said officers located the vehicle Rose was riding in and performed a traffic stop. Rose was taken into custody and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held on $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Sessions Court.
