A Bristol, Va., man was arrested Thursday on a charge that he stole an iPhone from a patient at a Johnson City medical office in May.
Gerald A. Moretz, 59, 135 Kilgore Drive, Bristol, Va., was charged with theft of property over $500.
The victim told police she had been escorted to her exam room May 29 by the nursing staff and left her iPhone in the room for a few minutes. Video surveillance showed Moretz going into the victim’s exam room after she walked out, police said, and he stayed inside for a few seconds before coming back out just before the woman returned.
The woman discovered that her phone was missing.
Moretz turned himself in at Johnson City Police Department headquarters on Thursday. He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond. He was set to be arraigned today in Sessions Court.
