ELIZABETHTON — A man was arrested Wednesday evening on charges he stabbed an employee of the KFC restaurant with a boxcutter knife.

Ricardo Carmello Mayse, 25, 283 Old Railroad Grade Road, Roan Mountain, was arrested by the Elizabethton Police Department on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated criminal trespassing and simple possession of marijuana. The employee, identified as Assistant Manager Trevor Guy, was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency room for a cut across the left side of his ribs.

The incident took place in the back parking lot of the restaurant. The first officer on the scene, Cpl. Mike Sproviero, was flagged down and told by witnesses that Mayse was running north on North Roan Street, with several witnesses chasing him.

Sproviero made contact with Mayse on East Mill Street. Sproviero searched Mayse and found the knife in his right pocket. Sproviero said blood was on the blade.

Officer Lincoln Orellana questioned the witnesses, who said Guy walked outside the restaurant to check on a disturbance in the back lot. They said Guy saw Mayse standing in the parking lot and he knew Mayse was not allowed to be in the property. Guy asked him to leave. Witnesses said Mayse yelled at Guy, approached him and punched him.

Witnesses said Guy attempted to defend himself, but Mayse pulled out the knife and cut him on the left side.

Guy was taken to Sycamore Shoals Hospital. The attending physician said that because of the extent of his injury, Guy was taken to Johnson City Medical Center.

Officers said restaurant employees had told Mayse several times not to be on the property.

After Mayse was arrested, officers found a small plastic bag in his left sock containing marijuana. Another bag was found in his right sock.

Mayse is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Aug. 12.
