Ethan Thomas, ElizabethtonThe junior running back helped his team record a surprising 35-13 whipping of Tennessee High by rushing for a career-high 312 yards. Thomas had 24 carries and scored TDs on runs of 1, 63, 3 and 56 yards.Phillip Garland, Happy ValleyIn a tight 28-26 victory over Abingdon, Va., the junior running back was a defense’s nightmare. Garland finished with 339 yards rushing on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns.Ryan Burger, David CrockettThe sophomore quarterback guided his team to a 27-14 win over Chuckey-Doak by totaling four touchdowns and 242 yards of offense. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 202 yards and two scores.Patrick South, Johnson CountyFacing a big rival, South cut loose for 209 yards rushing on 24 carries in a 21-9 win over Hampton. South also scored the game-clinching TD from three yards out with under two minutes left.Austin Anderson, UnakaThe Rangers got their first victory of the season, and the senior receiver was a big reason for it.
