Although wet weather caused an early end to the game between the Johnson City Cardinals and the Elizabethton Twins on Sunday, more than 900 families left the park with something to cheer about.
On Sunday at Cardinal Park, Good Samaritan Ministries, Inc. held its fourth annual Back to School Event, which provided free school supplies to many of Washington County's underprivileged children.
In addition to school supplies, the children were also given two or three clothing outfits in an effort to make them happy with their appearance when they return to school. Once the supplies had been distributed, the children and their families were then treated to a picnic-styled supper at the park and were granted free admission to the ball game, which was delayed by weather in the top of the fifth inning.
