Boy Scouts of America Troops 35 and 131 helped load bags of food into trucks at Food City, 509 N. State of Franklin Road from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday during their Scouting for Food drive. Scouts and Scout leaders, who distributed thousands of grocery bags donated by Food City last weekend to homes across the region, as well as at local Food City stores, collected the bags Saturday morning. All 16 counties in the Sequoyah Council participated in the food drive, and the food collected at the State of Franklin Food City Saturday was donated to The Salvation Army, Haven of Mercy Ministries and Good Samaritan Ministries. Food collected throughout the council also was donated to numerous food banks throughout the region. Pre-packaged food bags, sold at local Food City stores, were also collected during the drive. Food City customers were able to buy the bag full of food items donated from the store for $10.
