Greeneville coach Cesar Cedeno with Science Hill Hall of Famer Billy Joe Bowman.
Science Hill Hall of Famer Billy Joe Bowman threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Johnson City-Greeneville Astros game Wednesday. Bowman also visited with Greeneville coach Cesar Cedeno, who played for Houston when Bowman coached. Cedeno was selected to four All-Star games while with Houston. Bowman won two games (Southern Cal, Princeton) and hit a home run in the 1951 College World Series while helping Tennessee to a runner-up finish. He teamed with the late Ralph Carrier to pitch Science Hill to the 1947 state championship, and pitched his way to Triple-A in the minors. Bowman's rookie season was with the Johnson City Cardinals. He went 11-3 with 2.10 ERA. He said the players wore "hand-me-downs" from St. Louis, and Bowman's pants had previously been worn by Stan Musial.comments powered by Disqus
