East Tennessee State University administrators announced just after 11 a.m. today that the campus would close at noon because of inclement weather.

Day classes dismissed at noon, and all evening classes were canceled. Clinics affiliated with the university were to remain open.

Johnson City school administrators alerted parents and students just after 7 a.m. today that schools would be closed because of cold temperatures and icy road conditions.

Washington County Schools were on a two-hour delay but also closed for the whole day not longer after the city's announcement, according to the system's website. Carter County and Elizabethton schools also closed later in the morning after being on delays.

Shortly before 10 a.m., leaders with the Unicoi County school system announced schools there will be dismissing early, starting at 11:30 a.m. with intermediate, middle and high schools followed by an 11:45 a.m. dismissal for elementary schools.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported icy road conditions in the region, including on Interstate 26 through Sullivan and Washington counties.
