Calling into the Jan. 7 meeting by conference call as board members sat around to discuss the trail’s progress, Steve Frabitore, Tupelo Honey CEO, was able to update task force members on the progress of the “Dine-Around For Tweetsie Trail” event.
The event –– scheduled for April 1-2 –– will involve restaurants in both Johnson City and Elizabethton. During those two days, participating eateries will donate a percentage of sales to benefit the Tweetsie Trail.
“The idea is very simple that on two specific days, which are traditionally pretty slow restaurant days — Tuesday and Wednesday — 10 percent of the total check, excluding alcohol tax and gratuity, will be donated to the Tweetsie Trail,” Frabitore said.
A final meeting was scheduled for Wednesday with both Chambers of Commerce, economic development representatives and media partners — Johnson City Press, Johnson City News and Neighbor and Elizabethton Star.
While those representatives might tweak the event plans in context or design, the event is still “a go” in terms of getting the word out to potential participating restaurants, Frabitore said.
Representatives from both Chambers will be going around to area restaurants to hand out documents that will sign that restaurant up for the event.
According to a Dine-Around event summary sheet, “participating restaurants will be able to be included in eight full-page ads every Wednesday in February and March in the Johnson City Press and the Elizabethton Star and eight full-page ads every Saturday in February and March in the News and Neighbor for a one-time fee of ... $225.”
The restaurants will also receive promotional materials to place in their restaurants.
The deadline for restaurants to sign up is Jan. 31.
The next Rails to Trails meeting is scheduled for Feb. 4.
