ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County School Board voted unanimously Monday morning to sell the vacant Range Elementary School building to the highest bidder in a recently conducted online auction conducted by the Royston Auction Company.

The bid was $93,000 for the 16,000 square-foot building and 2.8 acres. The furnishings, landscaping and other items were sold for another 4,062.21 in 41 separate auctions.

Under the terms of the auction, the identity of the winning bidder will not be known until the closure of the transaction. Director of Schools Kevin Ward said he has heard the buyer is someone who will be acceptable to the community.

The school board closed the county's smallest school at the end of last school year as a cost-saving measure.
