Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol worked the accident on Whitehead Hill and reported the crash happened when a car driven by Janice Denise Davis, 169 Dolan Hollow Road, passed the northbound dump truck being driven by Travis Alan Winters.
The troopers said for some reason Davis stopped the car after passing the truck and began to make a U-turn. The truck attempted to avoid a collision, but struck the car in the driver’s side door and front quarter panel.
Davis was transported by the Carter County Rescue Squad for treatment and was in stable condition. A passenger in the car, Bridgette Collins, was not seriously injured. Both had to be cut out of the wreckage of the car. Winters was also reported to be uninjured.
Highway Department maintenance personnel said the truck appeared to be repairable. It had a damaged radiator, bumper and left quarter panel. The car was destroyed in the wreck and the subsequent rescue.
