JC police charge man with abuse in death of infant

A Johnson City man has been charged in connection with the August death of an infant.

Police were called to Knob Creek Arms Apartments, 1901 Knob Creek Road, on Aug. 20 and found a 16-month-old child unresponsive. The child was taken to Johnson City Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Jonathan L. Cravens, 27, 1298 W. Jackson Blvd., Apt. 21, was charged with felony child abuse/neglect. Police said he was the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother and was caring for the infant.

Police said he left the child unattended in the apartment for a period of time. The length of time was not specified.

Cravens was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.

He was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Oct. 14.

More charges may be placed pending results of the child’s autopsy.
