Update: The Elizabethton Police Department reports that the man struck in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night has died from his injuries.
Christopher Hughes died about 3:15 a.m. today as a result of injuries sustained in the crash that occurred on Elizabethton Highway. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident has been identified, police said, but the investigation was ongoing. The driver's name was not released.

ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton Police Department has released the identity of a pedestrian who was injured when struck by a car on the Elizabethton Highway at Rio Vista Hill late Thursday night.
Christopher Dale Hughes was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by the Carter County Rescue Squad.
Capt. Joy Markland said the hit and run accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Sgt. Shane Darling and Officer Joe Holsclaw were the first officers to arrive on the scene, along with rescue squad members. The officers discovered Hughes had been struck by a vehicle while he was in the road. The vehicle fled the scene.
Due to the injuries sustained by Hughes, the Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was mobilized. During the course of the investigation, the driver and vehicle that fled the scene were identified.
Markland said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
