Popeyes to open July 30

Staff Report • Jul 25, 2013 at 11:11 AM

A spokesperson for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen confirmed Thursday that the restaurant will officially open for business at its first Tri-Cities location at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30.

Since announcing their intention to bring the international chain to Johnson City in May, the owners have renovated the former Dairy Queen building at 2602 N. Roan St. to suit the chicken restaurant's needs.

According to Popeyes spokeswoman Ellen Weaver Hartman, the new eatery will provide jobs for 45 to 60 people.

The Johnson City Popeyes will seat 80 diners, offers WiFi and will feature two large-screen televisions and Popeyes radio.

On the opening day, Hartman said the restaurant will stay open until at least 10 p.m., but could continue serving longer depending on business.
