Carter Co. Sheriff's Office says dead child suffered severe head trauma. The Carter County Sheriff's Department is awaiting the results of an autopsy that was conducted on Wednesday at Quillen College of Medicine to determine the cause of the death of 4-year-old Coty Cox.

Update: Carter Co. Sheriff's Office: Crash that killed 2 boys, mother followed argument; father, 2 others face meth charges. The Carter County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 19E on Oct 18, 2012 that took the lives of two children and their mother was preceded by an argument in a CVS Pharmacy parking lot between the mother and the man who was the father of one of the children and stepfather of the other child.

Blood drive to honor avid donater Hankal, killed by alleged drunken driver. Brittany Jo Hankal began donating blood to the American Red Cross at age 16 and was among the students who helped David Crockett High School become one of the region’s strongest supporters of Red Cross Blood Services.

Heavy rain causes standing water on local roads, flooding in Unicoi, Washington Counties. While rainy weather was expected in the region for the entire week, there wasn’t much of a pause in Wednesday’s downpour, which caused flooding and road closures throughout Johnson City and Washington County.

Local Fourth of July events still on schedule. As cities across the state are canceling their annual fireworks celebrations on account of the heavy rain throughout the region and more expected today, officials with local Fourth of July events have said they will continue with their scheduled plans rain or shine.

Washington County budget committee tweaks original spending plan. On June 24, a $9.2 million spending plan based on Washington County’s immediate needs was shot down in a 13-12 vote, sending the matter back to the Budget Committee, which after nearly four hours Wednesday revised the plan by making a few relatively minor changes.

Police: Johnson City man tied up, choked girlfriend at apartment. A man tied up and choked his live-in girlfriend at their Lamont Street apartment on Wednesday, resulting in his arrest, Johnson City police said in a news release.

Global play has helped Devine, Bucs. For the second straight summer, East Tennessee State volleyball coach Lindsey Devine is going to great lengths for an international experience.

Johnson City father jailed on abuse charge after hospital reports bruising on 18-day-old child. A Johnson City man accused with his wife of abusing their 18-day-old girl was arrested Wednesday.
