Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shipley, Gray, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, with a reception at Boones Creek Christian Church with family and friends.
The couple were married Dec. 21, 1951, in Greenville, S.C.
Mr. Shipley is a retired farmer, and is also retired from Jim Wiseman and Son Lathing and Plastering as a plasterer.
Mrs. Shipley is the former Marjorie Wiseman. She is retired from Kmart.
The couple have one son, Jimmy Shipley; three grandchildren, Joey Shipley, Brittany Martin and Taylor Martin; and one great-grandson, Carter Martin.
Announcement is made of the engagement of Alyssa Naomi Scallan and Lance Cpl. Cody James Orr, USMC.
The bride-elect is a daughter of Cynthia Scallan, Swansboro, N.C.; and Kenneth Scallan, LaGrange, N.C.
She is a graduate of East Duplin High School, Beaulaville, N.C.; and is a student at Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C., where she is pursuing a degree in accounting.
She is a granddaughter of René and Becky Scallan, Warsaw, N.C.; Joseph Hardison Jr., Morehead City, N.C.; and the late Gerry Hardison.
Her fiancé is a son of Linda M. Stephens, Johnson City; and Timothy Orr, Spring Hill.
He is a graduate of Jackson Central Merry High School, Jackson; and a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College, Nashville. He is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps as lance corporal, hydraulics specialist, in Afghanistan.
He is a grandson of Stewart “Rondal” Stephens, Johnson City; the late Shirley “MaMaw” Stephens; and Ted and Mozello Orr, Elizabethton.
The couple plan a private wedding for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at The Wedding Chapel in the Glade, in Gatlinburg.
Jennifer Nicole Washington and Britton Jiles Brumitt were married Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at the Little Log Wedding Chapel, Gatlinburg.
The chapel’s reverend officiated the 7:30 p.m. exchange of vows.
The bride is a daughter of Mary Barnett and David Washington.
She is a granddaughter of the late Christine and Joseph Barnett; and the late Jean and Alton Washington.
The groom is a son of James Eddie and Trudy Kay Brumitt, 390 Rockhouse Road, Johnson City.
He is a grandson of the late Martha and Bill Brumitt; Armida Loveless; and the late Herbert Sartain.
Given in marriage by her parents Mary Barnett and David Washington and her stepfather Lawson Burrow and escorted by her stepfather Lawson Burrow and her father David Washington, the bride wore a white strapless gown featuring silver trim beading across the front, gathers on the left side trimmed in silver beading with sequins, a button-up back and a floor-length skirt with a bow that extended into a train.
Maid of honor was Jessy Jinks.
Flower girls were Autumn and Brooke Jinks.
Ring bearer was Colton Pemberton.
Jason Davis served as best man.
Following a reception at The Rising Eagle Lodge Cabin, the couple remained in the Gatlinburg area for a wedding trip.

Following a reception at the International Storytelling Center, the couple took a wedding trip to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The couple resides in Gray.
