Kenny and Linda Harris, Erwin, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Nicole, to Christopher Dean Wilson, son of Dean and Ginger Wilson, Flag Pond.
The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Unicoi County High School and a 2011 graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She is employed by Tennessee Abrasive Inc. as a secretary.
She is a granddaughter of Richard and Shirley Harris, Erwin; Rosa McNalley, Erwin; and the late Stallard “Buck” McNalley.
Her fiancé is a 2004 graduate of Unicoi County High School and completed the National Interagency Wildland Fire Apprenticeship program. He is employed by the United State Forest Service as a firefighter. He is a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church.
He is a grandson of Thelma Wilson, Flag Pond; the late B.E. Wilson Jr.; Mary Ann Jackson, Erwin; and Jim Nelson, Gray.
The couple plan a private wedding for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Bristol Train Station, Bristol, Va.

Vern and Carol Shell, Jonesborough, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
The couple were married on Aug. 18, 1961, by the Rev. Randall Walters.
Mr. Shell retired from General Moters, Flint, Mich.
Mrs. Shell is the former Carol Scott. She is retired from the Flint Board of Education, Flint, Mich.
The couple have two children, David Shell and wife Angie of Jonesborough, and Mike Shell and wife Jennifer of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, Tara, Zach, Taylor and Emily; and one great-grandchild, Lexie.

The bride-elect is a daughter of Mary Archer, Johnson City; and the late Warren Douglas Archer.
She is a graduate of Science Hill High School; a 2010 graduate of Northeast State Community College, where she received an associate degree in science; and is a student at East Tennessee State University, where she will graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
She is employed by Johnson City Chiropractic Clinic.
She is a granddaughter of Margaret Starnes, Johnson City; the late Richard Starnes; Dr. Platt, Johnson City; and the late Mary Lou Platt.
Her fiancé is a son of Cindy Parvin, Greeneville; and the late Jerry Parvin.
He is a graduate of Greeneville High School; and a 2006 graduate of East Tennessee State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sports management and is a Sigma Chi alumnus.
He is employed by Champs Sports as general manager.
He is a grandson of Mary Elizabeth Parvin of Greeneville; the late Wayland Parvin; and the late Alvin and Helen Tinsley.
The couple plan a private wedding for Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Agota Springs, Kingsport.

Cecil and Charlsie Jean Garland, 165 Austin Springs Road, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, from 12:30-3 p.m. at the Gump Building, Rotary Park.
The couple were married on Aug. 31, 1951, in Westminster, Md., by Rev. Eugene C. Woodward.
Mr. Garland is a retired minister.
Mrs. Garland is the former Charlsie J. Ayers. She is a homemaker.
The couple have two children, Larry Garland and wife Diana, Piney Flats, and Johnny Garland and wife Stephanie, Gray; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Kimberly Ledford, Mikell Garland, Dewey Jacob Garland; and one great-grandchild, Robert Johnson.

Leon and Gerri Dutka, Matson Road, Jonesborough, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, on a transatlantic cruise to England and Germany aboard the Queen Mary 2.
The couple were married on Aug. 19, 1961, at Oak Grove Christian Church in Beckley, W.Va.
The couple have served in various Christian ministries.
